The Scottish Property Federation (SPF) has awarded an honorary life membership to its former chair Alasdair Humphery in recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to the SPF and wider real estate industry.
Mr Humphery is a former international director of JLL and was, until January, the head of JLL in Scotland – a role he had fulfilled for 15 years. A former chair of the SPF in 2013/14, he is also judge for the annual Scottish Property Awards and mentors undergraduates at his former university, Heriot-Watt.
With close to 35 years’ service to JLL in Scotland and almost 40 years as a qualified Chartered Surveyor (FRICS) and real estate advisor, he is one of Scotland’s most experienced advisors.
The award was presented as the SPF welcomed some 420 members and guests to its 10th annual dinner.
David Melhuish, director of the Scottish Property Federation, said: “Alasdair has been a stalwart supporter and adviser to the Scottish Property Federation over his 15 years as head of Scotland for JLL and as our chair during 2013-14, which included leading us during the Scottish independence referendum year. He did all this while leading a major property advisory business in Scotland.
“His political and policy acumen, and his knowledge of the capital markets were a regular opening feature of many of our key discussions and representations over these years.
“His instinct and understanding not just of business and political issues within Scotland, but his expert awareness of perceptions of Scotland from the critical wider international investment community have been, and remain, hugely valued not just by us, but also by our public stakeholders, many of whom were present among over 400 industry guests this evening to see him receive this inaugural Honorary Life Membership award.”
Commenting on his award, Mr Humphery said: “I was really taken by surprise by this generous and most unexpected award.
“I thought I would be lost for words when accepting the inaugural honorary life membership but hopefully, I conveyed my genuine belief that our challenged industry can, through the SPF, deliver huge expertise and collective experience to ensure political decisions are better informed.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time serving on the policy board and never stopped learning. It was an absolute honour to be its chairman.”
